March 19, 2025 – On March 21, 2025, the Georgia WWII Heritage Trail proudly marks National Rosie the Riveter Day, honoring the indomitable spirit of women who transformed the home front during World War II. Across Georgia, from Douglas to Savannah, these “Rosies” stepped into factories, shipyards, and training bases, driving the war effort with grit and determination. The trail, a network of historic sites, celebrates their legacy, spotlighting Georgia’s pivotal role in shaping victory.

At the WWII Flight Training Museum in Douglas, visitors can explore the story of the 63rd Army Air Force Flight Training Base, where women supported pilot training, including the heroic Major Charles J. Loring Jr. In Peachtree City, the Commemorative Air Force Airbase Georgia showcases restored aircraft like the Stearman biplane, a tribute to Rosies who built and maintained wartime planes. , including the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator flown by the Mighty Eighth Air Force.  Meanwhile, the World War II Home Front Museum in St. Simons Island highlights Coastal Georgia’s Liberty ship production, where women riveted and welded alongside men, embodying the “We Can Do It!” ethos.

National Rosie the Riveter Day, established by Congress in 2017, celebrates the estimated 18 million women who joined the workforce, reshaping the workforce and powering the Arsenal of Democracy. In Georgia, their contributions ranged from assembling aircraft to supporting military installations, leaving a lasting impact on industry and society. The trail’s eleven stops—including the National Infantry Museum in Columbus and Currahee Military Museum in Toccoa, where paratroopers trained—offer immersive experiences, from flying in WWII-era planes to exploring artifacts of sacrifice and innovation.
