Shotguns, sport shooting and the Eighth Air Force may not seem to have much in common; however, gunners often developed and honed their skills by shooting skeet. In fact, one of the artifacts in the Mighty Eighth Museum’s vast objects collection is Captain Leo H. Kerns’ (20 th FG/77 th FS) Squadron Skeet Team medal.
The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force’s annual Wick Searcy Memorial Clay Shoot honors the memory of our past Chairman of the Board, Major General William N. (Wick) Searcy, USAF, Ret., who passed away unexpectedly in late 2018. Proceeds from this event are invested in the history and STEM education programs for the thousands of schoolchildren and their teachers who avail themselves of these resources each year, both at the museum and through outreach programs.
