April 23, 2025 – The Georgia World War II Heritage Trail has earned a prestigious spot on StyleBlueprint’s “15+ Top Trails in the South” list, a recognition that underscores its significance in preserving and showcasing the state’s rich World War II history. This accolade highlights the Trail’s commitment to educating the public about Georgia’s pivotal role during the war and honoring the sacrifices of its citizens.

The Trail comprises twelve partner sites across Georgia, each offering unique insights into the state’s wartime contributions. From the coastal shipyards to inland training bases, visitors can explore diverse narratives that collectively tell the story of Georgia during World War II. Notable sites include the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force in Pooler, the National Infantry Museum in Columbus, the World War II Home Front Museum on St. Simons Island, and the Thomaston Goes to War exhibit, which delves into the local community’s involvement in the war effort.

At the World War II Flight Training Museum in Douglas, guests can learn about the rigorous pilot training programs that prepared thousands for combat. Meanwhile, the National Prisoner of War Museum in Andersonville provides a poignant look into the experiences of American POWs.​​
